    About Us

About the Blue Marlins Swim Team

The Blue Marlins Swim Team is a summer swim team in the Northwest Aquatic League (NWAL).  The team is made up of swimmers, boys and girls, ages 4 to 18 years. Our swimmers come from Oak Forest/Garden Oaks, Candlelight, Inwood, Timbergrove/Lazybrook, Forest West, the Heights and surrounding neighborhoods.  The team is managed by a group of volunteers that make up the Swim Team Board of Directors; however, all the parents who step up and volunteer throughout the season are essential to our success.  The Blue Marlins are coached by 4 employed swim coaches.

Coach Donna has been coaching the Blue Marlins for 20 years. She is currently the Kindergarten - 5th grade   computer teacher at St. Michael Catholic School. She has been the head coach for the swim team  at St. Thomas High School and Duchesne Academy for 2 years. She also teaches private swim lessons in summer.  This is her 19th year as the Blue Marlins Head Coach.

Assistant Coach – Van Arthur Jones

Coach Van is in his 6th year as a Blue Marlins coach.  However, Coach Van is no stranger to the water.  He  began swimming at the age of 6 coached by his father on the Westbury Swim Team.  He has worked for Dad’s Club since 2010 as a lifeguard, swim instructor, a streamline assistant, and assistant coach of the summer league team. This past school year he also became an assistant coach for the St. Thomas and Duchesne Academy Swim Teams. He is currently attending Houston Community College and is working on a degree in Geology. Coach Van is CPR trained.

    Assistant Coach – Ashlyn Biggers

Coach Ashlyn may be a new coach this year but she is not new to the team. She first started swimming with the Blue Marlins Team when she was 8 years old and continued all throughout high school. Coach Ashlyn started working as a lifeguard at Dad’s Club when she was 15 years old and started teaching swim lessons not too long after. She will be attending A&M University this coming fall and working on her degree in Kinesiology.
